PIEE BOARD’S CIRCULAR LETTER
March 2011 (In Russian)

Dear Members, Candidates and Registered Analysands,

I forward you some information on the activities of the PIEE. Please, read carefully.

  1. The following colleagues have been evaluated positively for IPA Direct Membership in October in Bled: Tatjana Burova (Latvia) and Lilija Varjačić Raiko (Slovenia). In Tallinn, Voldemars Švarc (Latvia) and Sergey Ulyanitski (Russia-Rostov on Don) have been evaluated positively. We congratulate them all and wish them successful analytical work and further professional development.
  1. Within this year colleagues from Estonia and Latvia are planning to apply for a shared IPA Study Group. Bulgarian colleagues are planning to apply for IPA Study Group too. Other groups are also moving in this direction.
  1.  GUIDELINES. The PIEE Board has decided to introduce the following modification in the PIEE Training Guidelines:

“30. In countries, where no Training Analysts have yet been appointed, the PIEE Board may authorize some IPA Members to perform training analysis with applicants who have positively passed their First Selection Interview. Members, who are actively working as analysts and in contact with the PIEE (attending seminars and congresses), may ask for such authorization, at least three years after their election as IPA Direct Members, presenting a written report on a recent analytic treatment, which should not be one of the two presented for their evaluation for IPA Membership. They are authorized to analyze in total not more than 3 candidates. The training analysis, which they are authorized to perform, must be standard analysis and not shuttle ones.”
“16… In shuttle and concentrated analysis are not acceptable more than two sessions in the   same day.”

  1. SELECTION OF NEW CANDIDATES

For the reasons described in the circular letter April 2010, the PIEE Board has decided that in 2011 there applications for new selection interviews from Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Ukraine and St.Petersburg will still not be accepted at this time. A very limited number of interviews may be considered for few other areas.
The deadline for the Selection Interviews is the 10th of June 2011. The selection will be performed during the PIEE Summer Seminar for Members and Candidates (the former Summer School) in Budva (Montenegro) on 24 – 30 September 2011. At the end of June those who will be admitted to the interviews will be informed.

E. Admission INTERVIEWS (2nd interviews) and FINAL EVALUATIONS may be done, as usually, at each of the 3 PIEE Schools-Seminars. The applications (and the cases) should be sent to Gilbert Diatkine at least 1 month in advance.

F. FINAL EVALUATION. Candidates must have finished their TSR and obtained the certificate to be entitled to apply for their final evaluation. It is recommended not to present cases of analytic patients who are at the same time students in a psychotherapy institute where the candidate, who applies for evaluation, is teaching.

G. PIEE FEES. Beginning in 2012 the PIEE Candidates (not the Registered Analysands) will pay their PIEE fee of 50 Euro (instead of 25 E), but it will include the PEPWEB subscription (which costs 10 Euro for Candidates).
Since 2011 Members will pay as yearly PIEE fee also 50 Euro  (what includes the PEPWEB subscription of 30 E for Members).
Members will have a 50 Euro reduction when they attend a PIEE Seminar (School).
The PEP subscription is a must for all, since we have such a cheap price only if all subscribe.

H. TSR: FEES: Participants must pay their yearly fee at the Seminar in June.
CLASS C.  A third class of the TSR will start in November 2011. The program and the deadline for applications will be sent soon.

I. LOANS. PIEE candidates and registered analysands who wish to apply for an IPA loan for training, must follow the same procedure as other candidates from all over the world. It means that they have to apply directly to the IPA, as  explained on the IPA website (Candidate Loan Panel). This process no longer passes through the PIEE.

J. NEXT EVENTS:

    1. Child Analytic Training Seminar: 10-12 June 2011 in Sofia.
    2. TSR: 18-19 June 2011 in Odessa.
    3. PIEE Summer Members and Candidates Seminar (Summer School): in   Budva (Montenegro), 24-30 September 2011. PIEE Members, Candidates and  Registered Analysands have priority in registration.

  - PIEE Child Analytic School: in Bled, Slovenia, 27 October- 3 November 2011 (from Thursday dinner to Thursday breakfast).

K. TRAINING FOR TRAINERS. A group of  Dutch analysts, lead by Thijs de Wolf, is successfully finishing the first Seminar for IPA Members called “Training for Trainers”. After the last seminar in October in Amsterdam, a new similar Seminar will start in 2012. There will be 6 week-end seminars in two years in an Eastern city. Some of our members have already applied in 2009. Those who wish to attend the second class, starting in 2012, should again send their application to M. de Wolf. mdw@wxs.nl. Further details on PIEE website.

L. ON-LINE INTERACTIVE SEMINAR. A group of experienced Italian analysts are available to start an on-line interactive seminar in English with a group of PIEE Members and Candidates. The Seminar should last 6 months. The matter and the way of working has to be chosen together after a first period of contact. Those who are interested should contact Maria Ponsi (Florence) mariaponsi@dada.it (and cc: fondapav@tin.it ).

M. EFPP. In some areas IPA Analysts and Candidates productively collaborate with the European Federation of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and this appears in general useful for both sides. The EFPP has a good international reputation due also to its good training standards.

N. After some rumours have circulated, we wish to express our shared opinion that it is highly unethical to charge the patients the sessions that the analyst is missing. Likewise  is it improper to raise the fees during the analytical treatment more than the inflation rate, unless a different agreement has been established at the beginning (for example if the beginning fee was reduced because of patients difficulties, which has later been overcome).

O. In any website the name of the IPA and the PIEE may be used only if there is a written authorization of the PIEE Director. Any abuse may have heavy consequences.

P. We stress that in the IPA it is presumed that all Members belong to and are active in an IPA Study Group, Provisional or Component Society, or are going to join one. It is hard to imagine a good working analyst working in isolation from his/her colleagues.

Candidates and Registered Analysands must choose their mentor among the PIEE Board and Staff Members and stay in contact with her/him.

PIEE  BOARD’S  CIRCULAR  LETTER
March 2011 - b

PIEE Teaching Seminars in Russian language for Candidates (TSR)

The PIEE is organizing a Third Class (Class C) of the Teaching Seminars in Russian language for Candidates (TSR), which will start in November 2011. It will be similar to the Seminars held for Class A and B, which started in Odessa in previous years.

The Seminars will be coordinated by the PIEE TSR Committee formed by:

Gary Goldsmith, Eike Hinze, Jane Milton and Aleksander Uskov.

The Seminars are held for 4 weekends a year (Saturday and Sunday) for 4 years.
There will be Russian speaking teachers or teachers with translation into Russian. At the end of this letter there is a list of some teachers. Others will be added later.

Usually the seminar will have the following schedule:
 Saturday: 9.00 -10.30  Theory
                  11.00 -12.30 Theory
                  13.30 -15.00 Clinical seminar
                  15.30 -17.00 Theory
                  17.30-19.00  Theory
 Sunday:                 9.00 – 10.30   Theory
                   11.00 – 12.30  Clinical Seminar
                             12.30 – 13.30   Discussion

The TSR participants must attend every year the PIEE Members’ and Candidates’ Seminars (the PIEE Candidates Seminar in English) and/or the PIEE Summer Seminar for Members and Candidates. At these two Seminars/Schools the TSR participants will be registered without paying a fee.

During the TSR some candidates will present in a discussion group an analytic clinical case in each Seminar, for one to four years, while others will make single case presentations. Every candidate will be required to make clinical presentations.
At the end of every year each participant will write a report connected to a theme discussed in one of the seminars. A reading list is provided.

No more than 20 participants will be accepted. Priority will be given to those PIEE Candidates who have already passed the admission interview (the second interview), who have less opportunity to get enough theoretical teaching. Exceptionally few advanced Registered Analysands may be registered too, as well as some Candidates from Study Groups (in agreement with their Groups and with their Sponsoring Committee).

Participants should pay a yearly TSR registration fee of 500 Euro, which will include accommodation and meals for each seminar from Friday evening to Sunday lunch. Participants must pay their travel expenses by themselves.  Participants whose analyst is among the teachers, must inform the TSR Organizing Committee about this.

It is expected that only those who are deeply motivated and able to attend all the seminars will apply to be accepted as participants, in order to obtain the PIEE validation of this teaching program for their training.

Those who are interested must send their Registration forms to Gary Goldsmith gngoldsmi@aol.com and e.f.hinze@t-online.de  not later than the 30th of June 2011!
